happy australia day

At the beginning of the year, our family picked a few countries we'd like to learn about. Stew and I agreed that we needed to get them thinking about eating different types of food (a big goal for Anna), what kind of animals and weather are there (for Sam) and if we'd like to ever travel there (for us). So we each picked a country (with abit of help) we'd be interested in learning more about, we put the names in a hat, and Australia was chosen! For the entire year we are going to learn about the country, all their food, music, traditions, geography and anything thing else we hear or learn from others. With today being Australia Day it was the perfect day to put together a few of the things we've been learning about. A big one was their flag, so we decided to make blue jello, with a bit of whipped cream and berries to represent all the colours. Sam also built the Sydney Opera house in paper plates and Duplo and we decided to BBQ meatballs and pineapples. Henry picked a few animals that he knows, and we read our favourite book, Diary of a Wombat. We got a few books from the library and danced to the Wiggles. Apparently AC/DC is also from Australia, but after the Wiggles I was done. We will be learning all about Australia for the entire year, so if anyone has any tips or suggestions, let us know.
